For the Republicans in the US the Presidential Race is already on! The arguments are already raging and some have even made their candidacy official. Although it is clear that there as yet more candidates to come, some obvious, some less obvious, the race within the Republican side seems to be pretty much a two horse race between Michelle Bachmann and Mitt Romney.
Michelle Bachmann.....A Tea Party at the White House?
Michelle Bachmann is a central figure in the so called Tea Party movement within the US Republicans. Bachmann could not be more typical of the Tea Party movement if she tried. She stands on a platform which builds itself on the notions of patriotism, traditional values and a very free market economy. She also couldn't be more different than Democrat President Barack Obama.
All of this gives Bachmann both an advantage and a disadvantage. On the one hand she's got one thing no other Republican has; a certain glitz that attracts a lot of attention; something which has always helped her finance her campaigns, a vital element in US politics. On the other hand it also makes a very polarizing figure with some admiring her for our outspoken way while others fear the very fact that she represents the Tea Party Movement so perfectly in terms of political ideas.
Bachmann can be compared to former Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin for indeed the two do share similarities; however I believe Bachmann is a much better politician and if the Democrats believe Bachmann will be an easy push-over like Sarah Palin they will fast realize just how wrong that assertion is.
Mitt Romney....Mormons finally get a crack at the top job?
Mitt Romney is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints commonly known as Mormons. This religious link is not without its controversy with Mormons still being perceived as different than any other branch of Christianity within the United States. Yet Romney seems to have overcome this initial difficulty.
Mitt Romney is the thing Obama and his bed fellows hoped the Republicans would never have; a centrist candidate! Romney has proven to have an ability at uniting Republicans, Independents and Democrats behind him. This ability to appeal to a wide audience means that Romney is likely to tap into traditional Democrat voters who may perhaps be dissatisfied with President Obama. At the same time however, his wide appeal also means that he draws away the more traditional Republican crowd. Indeed the term Obamnicare, a term used to criticize the health package introduced by Romney during his time as governor, was coined by a fellow Republican.
Mitt Romney however may be just what the Democrats want to avoid; someone they can't pin any extreme labels onto; something which may indeed help the Republicans send the Democrats back home out of the White House!
Pawlenty, Paul and friends...
The Republicans have a host of other Presidential hopefuls but these lack the style, the credibility and the political prowess to run a Presidential race. Politicians like Tim Pawlenty and Ron Paul only grab the headlines for all the wrong reasons and indeed a candidacy by any such politician will only ensure that President Obama and his destructive, unproductive, mediocre and horrible Presidency get the chance of four more years!
America needs to ditch the Democrats!
There's no two ways about the future of the United States. The Obama Presidency has been marked time and time again with failure. It has scored only a handful of successes, the killing of Osama Bin Laden being the greatest, and a whole truck load of disastrous policies. The Republicans can't afford to make any mistakes this time round; they need to pick a candidate with the best possible chance of sending Obama home. To allow Obama and his fellow incompetent fools to remain in office would be the greatest disservice the Republicans can give to the United States of America.
